Kristin,
The watchlist is designed to allow a player to focus on the teams he is likely to play for, this in turn sets the reminder emails they will receive, so, a player will only receive availability reminder mails for the days on which teams there watching are playing.
Unfortunately you can't customise the time at which you receive these at the moment. We do have plans to introduce this in the future, likely along the lines of the watchlist so that it is customed by players individually with perhaps a default club policy, e.g. "3 days before".
